Janice Valko grew up in the North Hills of Pittsburgh. Her Mom was a teacher and her Dad was an organic chemist, so both had a big influence on her choice of a career in medicine.
Dr. Valko graduated from the University of Pittsburgh, then went on to med school at Drexel University College of Medicine.
She completed her residency at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, and is thrilled to come home to Pittsburgh to work at Kids Plus.
Dr. Valko’s medical interests include mental health, special health care needs, and care for underserved populations.
When she’s not seeing patients, Dr. Valko enjoys running, swimming and “anything outside.” She’s active in her church, enjoys playing with her cavapoo, Flossie, and loves listening to podcasts. (She’s always looking for new recommendations!)
As a child, her favorite toy was her Skip-It.
Dr. Valko also loves walking and spending time at North Park Lake, and on the North Shore Riverwalk. A huge, life-long Pirates fan — she’s been with them, she says, “through the ups and the many downs” — her favorite place to “play” in Pittsburgh is PNC Park.
