Kids Plus is Pittsburgh’s most caring, connected, comprehensive pediatric practice. We offer a one-of-a-kind mix of experience, accessibility, and top-quality care, with nationally recognized expertise in a whole host of specialties.
Home to the Breastfeeding Center of Pittsburgh, with 11 providers who are International Board-Certified Lactation Consultants and another 7 IBCLCs on staff, Kids Plus is both the local and the national gold standard of breastfeeding support for Mom and babies. There’s simply no other practice like us in the country, with this level of expertise, service, and support. Our Breastfeeding Center, the first (and still only) advisor to the United States Breastfeeding Committee, has been serving mothers and children in Southwestern Pennsylvania since 2006.
We’re home to Adoption Health Services of Western Pennsylvania, where Dr. Sarah Springer — who writes and lectures nationally on both domestic and international adoption, and who chaired both the American Academy of Pediatrics Task Force on Foster Care and the AAP Section on Adoption — and Diana Schwab have worked for 20 years to provide education, support, and physical and mental health care to children and families in all stages of the adoption process.
From our Kids Plus Sleep Handout (which many of our parents call “The Sleep Bible”) to our Quiet Night Sleep Class (the only workshop of its kind in the region), and with our own, in-house Pediatric Sleep Guru (Dr. Wolynn, who studied at The School of Sleep Medicine at Stanford and was the Medical Director of the Mercy Hospital Pediatric Sleep Disorder Program from 1998-2007), Kids Plus is both a local and national leader in infant sleep, sleep training, and sleep disorders.
Nutrition & Fitness
We’re committed to helping children and families make healthy choices in their lives. With two certified Athletic Trainers on staff, two Registered Dietitians as our consultants, two Fitness-Through-Play office spaces, a comprehensive new health and wellness program, and active roles in both a local play and a national obesity prevention collaborative, Kids Plus is redefining how a pediatric practice can promote both nutrition and fitness.
With doctors who are also clinical vaccine researchers and a practice that has contributed to the study and development of multiple vaccines, Kids Plus is a national leader in the evidence-based science and medicine of disease prevention. As a practice that requires patients to keep up-to-date with the vaccine schedule published by the Centers for Disease Control and the American Academy of Pediatrics, we’re local and national leaders in keeping our children, our families, and our communities safe from vaccine-preventable diseases.
Concussions & ImPACT Tests
ImPACT (Immediate Post-Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Test) was developed almost twenty years ago, right here in Pittsburgh, by the UPMC Concussion Center. ImPACT, which can be given to children 10 years of age and older, assesses a child’s alertness and function. With two certified Athletic Trainers and two certified ImPACT Test evaluators, we offer ImPACT Concussion testing — both baseline and post-injury — in all of our offices.
