Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Jonette comes from a big Italian family, with four sisters and an identical twin. As a child, her favorite toy was the chalkboard wall her Mom painted in their playroom. She and her sisters spent hours and hours (and hours) drawing things and cities and pretend people on the wall, and then using it as a blackboard to play “school.” They even had old desks in the room, where they would sit and take turns being the students and the teacher. She also loved to read for hours — especially the Babysitter’s Club Books! — and still loves to get lost in a good book.
In addition to reading, Jonette loves drawing, walking (especially in Mingo Park and the Montour Trail), baking (she worked at her uncle’s Italian bakery for years when she was growing up), anything related to art, and trying new things (like photography, pottery, and crafts).
Jonette earned her Associate’s Degree in Nursing at CCAC, then went on to California University of PA for her Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and to West Virginia University, where she earned her Master’s Degree in Nursing. She worked for six years as a nurse in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Magee Women’s Hospital. For four of those years, she was also on the transport team. During much of her time at Magee, she also worked with our own Terri Bailey. She loves working with babies and children. She became an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant in 2014.
Jonette is married, with one stepson and 2 dogs (a Golden Retriever/Lab mix named Millie, and a Golden Retriever named Clyde).
Her favorite places to “play” in Pittsburgh are Mingo Park, the South Side, the Strip District, and the Carnegie Science Center. Another of her favorite ways to spend time is to volunteer at the Humane Society.
