Dr. Nikita Roy is a proud Pittsburgh native who absolutely loves her hometown and is thrilled to be back.
After growing up in Pittsburgh, Dr. Roy stayed here for college as well, double-majoring in Anthropology and Neuroscience at the University of Pittsburgh. She loved her time at Pitt so much that she decided to do her medical training at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, where she was active on medical education committees and participated in lots of community service.
For her residency, Dr. Roy decided to branch out and try a new location: New York City. One of the highlights of her time at Cohen Children’s Medical Center was the chance to work for a month at a large children’s hospital in Chennai, India, where she learned about tropical medicine and experienced the practice of medicine in an entirely new health care system and sociocultural setting. During her time in India, Dr. Roy she spearheaded a quality improvement project targeted at improving parental education of antipyretic medication dosing.
In whatever spare time she can find, Dr. Roy enjoy cooking, baking, interior design, and doing DIY projects and crafts. She’s currently working on making a wreath for the front door of her new apartment, and improving my crocheting and knitting skills. She also enjoy traveling to new locations; she collects magnets from every city she visits, and is closing in on 100!
As a child, Dr. Roy’s favorite toys were her Barbies, complete with a Barbie Dream House and a Barbie Dream Car. She loved collecting new clothes, shoes, and accessories, and would play with them for hours.
Dr. Roy’s favorite place to “play” in Pittsburgh is Moraine State Park, about an hour north of the city. She and her family go there multiple times each summer to enjoy the Regatta Festival, picnic, relax by the lake, and enjoy the walking trails.
She’s also a big fan of the Strip District, where she loves to pick up fresh fruits and vegetables and all sorts of ethnic foods to try in new recipes. Her favorite, go-to place to shop in the Strip is the legendary Penn Mac.
